ST. PAUL, Minn. - Senior defensive end Will Brown (Shoreview, Minn.) has been rewarded for one of the most prolific seasons posted by a defensive end in Division II football in 2009 as he was named a Daktronics All-Super Region 3 Second Team selection by the sports information directors from the Northern Sun (NSIC), Rocky Mountain (RMAC) and Great Lakes (GLIAC) conferences late Tuesday afternoon. FULL All-REGION TEAMS
Brown's selection to the team is Concordia's first to a Daktronics All-Region Team since 2006 when Tyrone Ruffin and Dan Warnemunde were also Second Team picks.
In 2009, Brown was an All-NSIC South Division Honorable Mention selection by league coaches as he led all NSIC defensive linemen in tackles with 81 and led the entire league in tackles for loss with 21.5. He finished with 1.95 tackles for loss per game, which currently ranks tied for third NATIONALLY! He also rolled up 6.5 sacks which ranked third in the 14 team Northern Sun.
Brown had numerous big performances, posting three games with 10-plus tackles including a 14 tackle, 3.0 TFL, 1.5 sack effort against the University of Mary. That performance came the week following a 12 tackle, 3.5 TFL, 1.0 sack performance at Augustana which also included a forced fumble on the goal line. In a big road win at Southwest Minnesota State, Brown had a pair of tackles for loss and a pair of sacks while recovering a fumble with five tackles.
He finished the season with at least 0.5 TFL in all but one of Concordia's 11 games and had 2.0 or more TFL's in seven games including a season-high mark of 3.5 twice. He had at least four tackles in every game showing remarkable consistency and a nose for the ball at a prototypical pass rushing position from the right defensive end spot - all while getting the job done in the backfield as his TFL/sack rankings indicate.
